Our Approach
Coaching
- initial & ongoing assessment of non-cognitive and executive-functioning strengths
- during school year, weekly skill-building (individual and group, as appropriate)
- summer strengths-in-play camp (informed by college-level needs, adapted to age/ability)
- volunteer/intern positions
Advocacy
- in school: as needed, enhance understanding with teachers/support staff/administrators
- in family: keep parents informed, encourage home support
- in community: recruit suitable mentors, find service-learning and internship opportunities
- in college: develop adequate whole-person support
- in state: build durable partnerships to improve and expand programs
Mentoring
- pre-college: recruit, screen, train, and supervise appropriate adult community members, establishing long-term relationships to grow each learner’s self-esteem
- college: peer-to-peer networking
Parent/Caregiver Engagement
- encourage buy-in for college as a goal, if necessary
- maintain supportive home environment, where possible
- communicate & relate through ongoing individual/group outreach
