Due to the coronavirus, we are not currently scheduling in-person community events, but we are working with local partners to create virtual opportunities. Check this space for new in-person events in 2021! Meanwhile, we are planning to link online to the international celebration of neurodiversity in March 2021 (see flyer above). Community & professional engagement:
- November, 2020, Virtual community presentation by Vermont Afterschool on creating a culture of youth voice, sponsored by YAC Steering Committee. Future presentations on this subject are planned.
- July, 2020, First Youth Advisory Council meeting! Now virtual meetings weekly. The YAC is still small, but mighty in potential! New outreach effort specifically to virtual learners and homeschoolers made in September.
- May, 2020, Initial YAC Outreach from Steering Committee to area schools; the first youth-leadership group is currently forming. Outreach materials: YAC introduction (PDF); YAC YouTube video; YAC Instagram link (@yacisback2.0)
- January, 2020, Caledonia & So. Essex Counties Youth Advisory Council (YAC) Steering Committee formed. A seven-organization local coalition behind a community-based youth leadership initiative.
- May, 2019, "Can People Living with Autism Save our Planet?" A conversation with the Greater Greensboro community.
- April, 2019: Neurodiversity & Mental Health Conversation. A presentation for professionals about neurodiversity in the context of mental health from a panel of college students from Landmark College in Putney, Vermont.
- February-April 2019: Neurodiversity Film Series, Catamount Arts, St. Johnsbury. Series of six public screenings, with conversations.
- October, 2018, Dislecksia: The Movie. Public screening, Sterling College, Craftsbury, VT. Partnership w/ WonderArts.
- September, 2018, Life, Animated. Public screening, Heartbeet Lifesharing, Hardwick, VT. Partnership w/ WonderArts.
- August, 2018, Autism in Love. Public screening, Highland Center for the Arts, Greensboro, VT. Partnership w/ WonderArts.
- June, 2018: "Neurodiversity in Mentoring" A workshop for mentoring professionals, Vermont Mentoring Symposium, Waterbury, VT. Co-presenter Corey Richardson.
